Vintage original 11 x 14 in. (27.9 x 35.6 cm.) U.S. lobby card, near-fine condition.
The silent film drama Baree, Son of Kazan was based upon the novel by James Oliver Curwood. The original 1918 version was also produced by Vitagraph and featured Nell Shipman in the lead role. This second silent version was released in 1925 by Vitagraph and stars Anita Stewart. The color-tinted image features a dramatic shot of the film's heroine, Nepeese (Anita Stewart), in a faint in the arms of the film's villain, Bush McTaggart (Jack Curtis) as Pierre (Joe Rickson) bursts into the log cabin to resuce her. The caption in the lower left reads, "Nepeese fainted as Pierere entered!" A vignette of Miss Stewart with Baree, the dog who is featured prominently in the film, appears in the lower right corner and the lower left portion of the card depicts a scene featuring a dog sled. This vintage original lobby card is in near-fine condition with light signs of wear at the corners and along the upper and lower edges and minor signs of foxing near the right side approximately 1 in. from the upper edge and near the right edge in the center. A previous owner had professionally printed with what looks like a rubber stamps the names of the three actors in the right portion of the green rug on the floor (Anita Stewart, Jack Curtis, Joe Rickson). The colors are very fresh and vibrant and showcase the beautiful native American Indian and Northwest-themed costumes.
