Vintage original 8 x 10 in. (20.3 x 25.4 cm.) U.S. single-weight gelatin silver glossy still photograph, very fine condition.
Considered one of the great masterworks of German silent cinema, Die Nibelungen: Siegfried was produced in Germany in 1924 and directed by the renowned Fritz Lang. This vintage original still photograph was printed for the film's original U.S. release from the original German glass negative. The image features an exterior long shot of Koenigin Ute (Gertrud Arnold) standing on the steps outside an ornate stone building in the kingdom of Burgundy as her daughter, Princess Kriemhild (Margarete Schon), slowly approaches her. Two groups of ladies dressed in black and white watch the two women from the sides. This particular image showcases the film's celebrated costumes and set design. This vintage original still photograph is in very fine condition with no visible flaws. Rare.
Die Nibelungen is a duology of silent fantasy films created by Austrian director Fritz Lang in 1924--Die Nibelungen: Siegfried and Die Nibelungen: Kriemhild's Revenge. They were co-written by his then-wife Thea von Harbou, based upon the epic poem "Nibelungenlied," written around AD 1200.
