Vintage original 11 x 14 in. (27.9 x 35.6 cm.) U.S. lobby card, fine condition.
Produced by Paramount Pictures in 1922, Manslaughter was directed by Cecil B. DeMille and co-stars Leatrice Joy and Thomas Meighan. This silent film melodrama features the tagline "For the rich and poor, the beautiful and plain-there's only one law! She has broken it and must pay!" The image on this vintage original lobby card features what is certainly the most representative image from this film: the fateful crash of a motorcycle policeman which was caused by the reckless, speed-loving socialite, Lydia Thorne (Leatrice Joy). The card also features a large portrait shot of Miss Joy and Thomas Meighan (who plays the District Attorney that ends up prosecuting her in court for manslaughter...after he has fallen in love with her). The lower border artwork features a scene of a speeding automobile (presumably with Lydia Thorne at the wheel) being chased by a motorcycle policeman as it's about to collide with a locomotive at a railroad crossing.
This lobby card is in fine condition with one pinhole in the upper left corner and three pinholes in the upper right corner and a small crease. There is a 3 in. jagged diagonal crease in the center of the purple background below the automobile with random surface scuffs above it to the left and right; a small crease at the lower left corner; and a small 0.75 in. scuff near the lower right corner in the white background area below the Paramount logo. The colors are extremely fresh and vibrant and this lobby card was created during Paramount's brief period where they used striking solid colors for the background areas, creating some incredibly beautiful images. Paramount lobby cards from this brief period are highly sought-after by collectors.
