Vintage original 11 x 14 in. (27.9 x 35.6 cm.) U.S. lobby card, very good condition.

Considered to be the earliest feature-length "old dark house" film, One Exciting Night was released in 1922 by United Artists and directed by the legendary D.W. Griffith. This particular lobby card is considered by collectors to be the best card from the set and features a close shot of the film's protagonist menacing the heroine, Agnes Harrington (Carol Dempster). Also featured is a portrait shot of Griffith in the lower right portion of the card. This vintage original lobby card is in very good condition and was professionally cleaned. The bottom left portion of the card had light random areas of surface dirt that were cleaned and that area now has a mixture of bright white areas mixed with the tinted background color. There is light vertical surface soiling along the right edge and a small area of discoloration in the top right corner. This set of lobby cards was printed with a varnish-type finish to give them a glossy appearance and time has worn away portions of the varnish, most notably on the lower portion of the protagonist's coat and pants. There are several tiny speckles in the background area beneath the film's title.

One Exciting Night is an American Gothic silent mystery film directed by D. W. Griffith. The plot revolves around the murder of a bootlegger and the attempts of the cast to uncover the true murderer. The film, inspired by the Mary Roberts Rinehart and Avery Hopwood play The Bat (1920), led to the production of similar "murder mystery/old dark house" films such as The Bat (1926) based on the play, The Cat and the Canary (1927), The Old Dark House (1932) and even the fabled London After Midnight (1927) with Lon Chaney. At the time of this film, Henry Hull was starring on Broadway in the stage version of Mary Roberts Rinehart's The Cat and the Canary.
