*"All-of-a-Sudden-Peggy was based on Ernest Denny’s play of the same name, which debuted on 27 February 1906 in London, England. An American production of the play opened in New York City on 11 February 1907. Famous Players-Lasky Corp.’s purchase of screen rights was announced in the 1 August 1919 Wid’s Daily, which noted that Marguerite Clark would play the titular role. Shooting was set to take place in Los Angeles, CA, under the direction of Walter Edwards. Although an item in the 2 August 1919 Motion Picture News claimed that filming had ended, a news brief stating that principal photography was “nearing completion” appeared over a month later in the 6 September 1919 issue.
 
Prior to the film’s general release on 1 February 1920, it was scheduled to open on 19 January 1920 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, and on 25 January 1920 in Boston, MA, according to advertisements in the 18 January 1920 Evening News and 25 January 1920 Boston Globe. A review in the 9 February 1920 [Washington, D.C.] Evening Star praised Marguerite Clark’s performance as “bubbling with fun, merriment, humor, comedy and those flashes of sunshine that have brought to the young actress her many successes.” The National Film Preservation Board (NFPB) included this picture on its list of Lost U.S. Silent Feature Films as of February 2021."
 
As described in a film magazine,[5] Peggy O'Hara (Clark) who with her widowed mother Mrs. O'Hara (Leighton) is staying at the manor of Lord Anthony Crackenthorpe (Humphrey), a scientist engrossed in the study of spiders. Mrs. O'Hara is assisting Lord Anthony. The sister of the peer sends for her son Jimmy (Mulhall) because she thinks Peggy has designs on Lord Anthony. Jimmy falls in love with Peggy, and in order to further her mother's love affair with Lord Anthony, Peggy announces her engagement with Jimmy. She goes to London where her pocket is picked, and has to stay at Jimmy's bachelor quarters while he is away on business. The sudden appearance of Jimmy, his mother and father, and a prying neighbor precipitates matters, with Peggy having spent the night there suggesting a scandal. In the end it is straightened out and Peggy consents to marry Jimmy."
