Vintage original 7.5 x 9.75 in. US double-weight matte photograph of silent film actress ARLINE PRETTY c.1920.
 
She is depicted in a close interior studio shot that is complimented by beautiful lighting on her hair and left shoulder to create a sense of depth. It was signed by Arline Pretty later in her life in a black felt-tip pen thusly: "To Jon - Sincerely - Arline Pretty." It is in very fine- condition.
 
*"Arline Pretty (her actual name) had experience on stage, playing everything from juvenile leads to Shakespeare, working for three years on stage in Washington, DC, with the Columbia Stock Company before debuting in films in 1913. Her early film experience was as a supporting actress for actor-turned-director King Baggot at Universal. She freelanced for different studios and worked in all genres, but found success doing serials for Vitagraph and Pathe. Pretty's film work included the Vitagraph serial, The Secret Kingdom (1917) and she appeared as the daughter of a jailer with Douglas Fairbanks in In Again, Out Again. She worked steadily until the coming of sound, when her career nosedived, but she later did extra work, often at MGM. However, she had saved and invested wisely the money she made during the height of her popularity and worked pretty much because she wanted to, not because she had to. She died in Los Angeles in 1978."
