Vintage original softcover book by Dr. Oskar Kalhue; Berlin; 1935. Consists of 136 pages with actual printed b&w photographs affixed throughout on the history of the silent film in Germany. The front cover is embosssed with the title in gold ink and includes a color-tinted photograph of a woman within a gold frame (there are two different styles of the woman depicted).
Included are two beautiful full-page color-tinted photographs along with actual printed b&w photographs affixed to the pages from such films as The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Nosferatu, Metropolis, The Last Laugh, Madame Dubarry, Anna Boleyn and Casanova. There are rare on-set, behind-the-scenes images which feature personalities as Asta Nielsen, Pola Negri, Paul Wegener, Lil Dagover, Brigitte Helm being directed by Fritz Lang, Rudolf Klein-Rogge, Emil Jannings, Camilla Horn, Willy Fritsch, Conrad Veidt, Henny Porten, Mia May, Paul Richter and many others.
This example displays only mild edge wear and scratches on the image of the woman on the front cover and creases on the lower left corner of the back cover. The binding is tight and the pages are bright white. Very Fine-
